AlpPass is a free, independent, advertising-free resource for everyone who believes a winding alpine road is one of life's great pleasures.
To help drivers experience the Swiss Alps respectfully, safely, and with the best possible information at their fingertips — whether that's finding the cheapest diesel, knowing the max gradient before committing a campervan to a climb, or discovering a quiet pass they'd never have found otherwise.
No ads. No trackers selling your data. No paywalls. Just passion.
These roads have cinematic pedigree. The Furka Pass starred in James Bond: Goldfinger (1964) — the chase where Auric's yellow Rolls races the Aston Martin DB5 was shot on its hairpins. The Belvedere hotel above the Rhône Glacier is still there (worth a coffee stop).
And BBC's Top Gear repeatedly ranked the Stelvio and neighbouring Swiss passes among the greatest driving roads in the world — with Jeremy Clarkson famously declaring the Stelvio the "best driving road, anywhere" before being edged out by a road in Romania. The Swiss passes remain peerless.
These are not racetracks. They are shared with cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians, farmers moving cattle, postbuses, and families in hire cars who have never driven in the Alps before. Drive them with the care they deserve.
AlpPass is built as a single-page web app. Live weather comes from Open-Meteo (free, open-source). Map tiles are served by OpenTopoMap (topographic) and CARTO (standard), with underlying map data from OpenStreetMap contributors. Pass status data will integrate with ASTRA (Swiss Federal Roads Office).
All data public, all code transparent. As it should be.

Every project has its journey, and this one was no exception. It started out pretty manually—a project I’d work on, set aside when life got busy, and pick back up whenever time allowed.
A major turning point came with recent advancements in AI, which helped me conquer technical hurdles I couldn’t get past on my own before. But the real catalyst happened when my good pal Stefan Berreth stepped in and let me test out a truly game changing agentic software development tool he created.
That software completely accelerated the workflow and slingshot this site straight to completion. Simply put, I couldn’t have brought this across the finish line without him.
